A Thrift project (and family room sneak peek)

For those of you who know me personally, you’ve probably heard me talk about Savers. It’s my favorite local thrift store and, to my heart’s delight, I almost always come home with a great find.

I love thrifting because it’s a great way to add beautiful pieces to your home for a small price tag. I love that you can get creative and breathe life into old items.  You’ll probably hear me talk a lot about thrifting.  And Savers :)

My secret to thrift shopping is to look for items that I can transform, but yet fit my style. For instance, I love clean lines, and last week I found this item at Savers for $1.99:

oldclock

I wasn’t crazy about the green matte and the wood is the color of my trim that I’m currently painting white.  It was screaming to me for a makeover, and seriously this makeover took about two minutes:

I covered the glass with a cardboard and tape:

(about 45 seconds to do that)

Then I took two bottles of spray paint: a silver to cover the green matte, and glossy black to paint the clock.  The spray painting took about 1 minute. By the way, I love using rust-oleum spray paint. (Tip: get the paint and primer together!)

And voila! Now I have this snazy black clock that I love!

I put it above my computer nook and it keeps me inspired :)

And as a teaser, here’s a look into my current project:

It’s been a long time coming, but I’ve finally worked up the courage to paint over our wood paneling.  I’m a bit nervous about the final results, but it certainly brightens things up.  A lot!

Stay tuned for the big reveal next week!

  1. So excited to see how the paneling turns out! We have paneling in one of our rooms and I want to paint it one day!
